Initally the Association, along with its then counterpart, the European Ni-Goju Karate Association, granted rankings through 3rd Dan, but this was later changed when all Dan grades were awarded through the Kokusai Dai Ni Gojuryu Karate Kyokai. The Association now awards kyu grade rankings, and certificates of specialization in the various subspecialities of the Dai Ni Gojuryu style.
In 1990, Tukerii Sensei's successor, Charles Bouton, appointed John Liles as President of the American Ni-Goju Karate Association. Carre Avian as Vice President, and Katherine Speers as Promotion Board Secretary.
In 1995 Carre Avian retired from active karate, and President, John Liles, appointed Katherine Speers as Vice-President and Robin Riccardi as Secretary of the Promotion Board.
The Organization continues to promote the practice of the Okinawan Dai Ni Gojuryu system in the United States under the leadership of these three officers.
